Astro Flag Gallery

In the circle drive of our home on Lake Joe is our American flag hanging on its pole. At night a pair of LED floodlights illuminates the flag, along with flowers at its base and the holly tree alongside. Although our home town of Highland produces a significant amount of light pollution to the west the skies above are reasonably dark, enough to allow views of the summer Milky Way crossing overhead.

With the flag as foreground the great wheel in the sky parades a continuous slideshow of celestial objects above and behind Old Glory. The day time sky can also produce beautiful backdrops of coming storms and threatening clouds. I have tried on several occasions to capture the instant when lightning fills the sky above the flag waving in the wind, without success… to date.

Our flag looks even more majestic when paired with a close up moon or distant stars.
